Kansas tallgrass prairie

Shake the Hand That Feeds You

We believe you should know where your food comes from — and the people who raise it.

The Problem We Saw

Walk into any grocery store and pick up a package of beef. Where did it come from? Which farm? How was the animal raised? Was it stressed at harvest? You'll never know. That meat is a commodity — anonymous, untraceable, disconnected from the land and the people who worked it.

Meanwhile, small family farms across Kansas are raising animals the right way — on pasture, with care, using practices that heal the land. But connecting with customers? That's hard. Most people don't know how to buy directly from a farm, and traditional "meat shares" require buying a whole or half animal — hundreds of pounds and hundreds of dollars upfront.

A Better Way

Tallgrass Meats is a network — a hub connecting Kansas families with regenerative farms they can actually know and trust. We partner with farmers who share our values: animals raised on pasture, stress-free harvest, and complete transparency about how your food was raised.

We're not a single farm. We're a community of farms, and a bridge between those farms and the families who want to eat better.

What makes us different? You don't have to buy a whole animal. Our flexible membership lets you choose the cuts you want, in quantities that fit your freezer and your budget. And every single package comes with a QR code that tells you exactly where that meat came from — which farm, which animal, how it was raised, and even how to cook it.

Why Kansas?

We're rooted in the Flint Hills — home to some of the last remaining tallgrass prairie in North America. This land was made for grazing. For thousands of years, bison moved across these hills, and the grass thrived because of it. Today, cattle and sheep can play that same role, managed right.

Our partner farms are your neighbors. They're in Valley Center, in the Flint Hills, across the Kansas prairie. When you buy from Tallgrass Meats, your dollars stay local, support families you can meet, and fund farming practices that make the land better for the next generation.

The Name

"Tallgrass" isn't just a name — it's a statement. The tallgrass prairie is one of the most endangered ecosystems on Earth, with less than 4% remaining. But it's also resilient. With the right stewardship, it comes back. That's the kind of farming we believe in: working with nature, not against it.

And "Meats" — plural — because this isn't about one farm or one animal. It's about a whole network of farms, a whole community of eaters, all connected by a simple idea: you should know where your food comes from.
